Leveraging Proven Content Templates

One of the biggest factors in growing the site was leveraging proven content templates. For example, one successful template was startup lists – articles highlighting 25-50 startups in an industry along with growth metrics and funding info.

This template was easy to scale. We created 50-60 articles covering different industries just by plugging in new startups.

Similarly, we leveraged a trends article template by creating 100+ articles on trends in different topics like business, fintech, and SaaS.

Reusing proven templates enabled creating 150-160 articles quickly compared to reinventing the wheel each time.

Implementing a Blog Landing Page

Switching from a basic blog feed to a curated blog landing page also accelerated growth.

The landing page funnels traffic to key conversion pages and sends authority to pages we want to rank. Core pages stay visible unlike on a blog feed where they can get buried.

Putting a page I want to rank from #5 to #1-2 on the landing page often gives it a nice rankings boost.

Using Reverse Outreach

Reverse outreach has been critical for getting high quality backlinks at scale.

It involves creating content designed specifically to get found and linked to by bloggers/journalists in your space.

For example, we have a regularly updated page on mobile internet traffic percentages that ranks for related keywords. Bloggers writing on that topic find and link to us.

The key is ranking for what bloggers search for so your content gets in front of them at the right time.

Scaling Content Production

Getting from 100K to 400K+ visitors required scaling content production from 1 article per week to 4-5.

I leveraged writers from Upwork and focused on assigning templates they excelled at. This created an efficient system.

Maintaining quality at higher output meant implementing rigorous editing processes. But with the right systems, scaling content 4X fueled rapid growth.

Plans for Reaching 1 Million Visitors

Some plans for getting from 400K to 1 million+ visitors:

Testing new content templates outside my comfort zone. Analyze performing one-off articles and find ways to template them.

Aggressively updating existing content so it stays fresh. I hired an “update czar” to systematically review all content.

Improving internal linking between articles to better interconnect my content library.

Continuing to publish great new content while optimizing existing assets already attracting traffic.

So in summary, growth has come from leveraging proven templates, implementing solid SEO fundamentals, and scaling production with quality. Executing on these core strategies has taken the site from 0 to 417K monthly visitors.
